Three Bystanders Injured in Sprint Car Accident

Barberville, FL- Three spectators viewing from the pit area were transferred to a local hospital after a Sprint Car flipped off the track surface during a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at Volusia Speedway Park Sunday night.

According to a track official and confirmed by a Tweet from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, three were transported to Halifax Health – two as trauma alerts.

DIRTcar released a statement late Sunday evening, as well:

Three participants in the pit area were injured in an incident at a DIRTcar Nationals World of Outlaws event at Volusia Speedway Park Sunday night when a car went through the fence in turn two. All patients were treated and transported to Halifax Health Medical Center.

UPDATE: First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the race fans. We were able to identify one of the participants as Mr. Gary Streek. He is stable and visiting with family and friends. Mr. Streek is from the United Kingdom.

Following the incident we responded appropriately and according to our safety protocols and had emergency personnel at the scene immediately.

The accident occurred when Dave Blaney was sent tumbling after tangling with Rico Abreu and Jason Sides.  All drivers walked away from the accident without injury.
