The Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation recently donated $50,000 to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina to address food insecurity in its 34-county service area.
The donation is part of the Fill Your Tank program that celebrates Enterprise Rent-A-Car's 60th anniversary by providing $60 million in a six-year span to fight hunger. Fill Your Tank program donations made locally are determined by local Enterprise operations.
Beyond donations, Enterprise Rent-A-Car is supporting the Fill Your Tank program with a hunger awareness and local engagement campaign.
"Enterprise Rent-A-Car is woven into the fabric of central and eastern North Carolina, and food insecurity is an issue for our community," Kaniche Bennett said. "This donation to the food bank will support those in our community who need a little help to reach to their full potential."
In addition to the donation, 75 Enterprise regional managers volunteered at the Wilmington branch, sorting enough sweet potatoes and butternut squash to provide the equivalent of nearly 15,000 meals.
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through warehouses in Greenville, Durham, New Bern, Raleigh, Southern Pines and Wilmington.
In fiscal year 2015-16, the food bank distributed more than 64.4 million pounds of food and non-food essentials through these agencies.
"Thanks to partners like Enterprise Rent-a-Car, we're able to continue our work distributing nutritious food options for those who are hungry in our community," food bank CEO Peter Werbicki said.
"We're incredibly grateful for Enterprise's commitment to our mission of ensuring no one goes hungry in central and eastern North Carolina."
