Is Disney Planning to Build a Cable Car System at the Walt Disney World Resort?
There's been a rumor circulating for a short time that the Walt Disney World Resort is considering building a cable car system on property.
And, thanks to the filing of some plans by the Reedy Creek Improvement District with the South Florida Water Management District, that rumor is getting stronger.
There is no official word yet from Disney about the plans, but they show several buildings with elevated floors and one building with a V-shape – leading some people to think that these are plans for a gondola lift that links certain hotels with some of the theme parks.
According to reports, when asked about the potential project Disney says they "have numerous projects in various stages of development" at any given time. Disney also says they'll share details if and/or when any project moves forward.
The plans state that work will occur south of Epcot and Disney's BoardWalk Resort and east of Disney's Hollywood Studios. The Studios are in the midst of a construction project for Star Wars Land and there are rumored changes coming to Epcot.
It should also be noted here that a major construction project is reportedly coming to Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. There's no word that one project is connected to the other, but it's still worth noting especially considering the news that CBR is getting an upgrade with waterfront dining and shopping.
Several reports state that theme park experts who have viewed the plans seem quite certain that a gondola cable car system is what is represented in those plans.
Again, there is no official word from Disney with regard to this project, but we'll update the story if and when we hear something.
