SINGAPORE – A 32-year-old man who was injured after a car exploded at a Bukit Batok car park last Wednesday (April 26) has been charged in court, the police said in a statement on Tuesday (May 2) evening.
The police confirmed that the explosion, which ripped apart a silver Nissan hatchback at a multi-story carpark at 290H Bukit Batok Street 24, was a result of an act of mischief.
Police found portable butane gas canisters at the scene.
The man was charged in Court on April 29 with the offence of Mischief by Fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. He will be remanded to assist in further investigations.
Photos and videos posted on social media showed severe damage to the car, with all four of its doors blown apart, seemingly from the inside.
A viral video also showed some people on the scene offering assistance to the injured man.
