A passenger in the car seemed unaffected by the crash, telling 7 News: 'We started the car and it went through the window.'
Store employee Jacob Barrow said the crash could have been much worse if it were half an hour later.
'Had it happened half and hour later, there would have been a lot of people,' he said.
'It could have been a lot worse. Staff had just walked on the line where the car went five seconds earlier.'
The 51-year-old driver was then taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital where a blood sample was taken to check for traces of drugs and alcohol.
She continues to assist police with their enquiries into the incident.
