Wet weather is causing hazardous driving conditions, contributing to a string of crashes throughout the Waikato region.
A pair of tourists found themselves in a precarious position after skidding out on a highway through the Hauraki Plains on Thursday morning.
The silver car with two people inside came off the road and hit a concrete fence before coming to a rest on its side outside a workshop in Paeroa around 10am on Thursday.
Michael Rose was nearby checking tyre pressure on a customer's tyres at Super Tyre Guy along the main street of Paeroa when he heard the skid.
"Then boom, I heard it before I saw it."
He said the Nissan lost control and hit a concrete barrier before crashed into the fence outside the cafe next door.
The two people managed to get out of the car that overturned onto its side and were treated by ambulance, he said.
Rose said there were strong winds pummelling Paeroa on Thursday morning, and the roads were wet after a morning of rain.
Fire and police also attended the crash.
Among a multitude of crashes in Hamilton, four vehicles collided on Greenwood St.
One of the vehicles ended up through a fence.
