A cat had to be rescued after becoming trapped inside the engine of a car in Wirral.
A driver made the discovery after hearing miaowing as she left her home in Tranmere.
The woman heard crying and feared she had hit a cat – then discovered the unlucky feline trapped in the engine compartment against the radiator of the brand new Hyundai.
It took two RSPCA Inspectors, a vet, a veterinary nurse and a helpful member of the public three hours to free Leo, who is now recovering at home.

Wirral RSPCA Inspector Anthony Joynes, who went to help his colleague Andy Harris at the scene, said: "We considered towing the car to the local garage who had agreed to assist for free. However after considering all the options we decided it was best to remove the cat in situ.
"It could have been a much worse situation if the owner of the car had continued her drive to work.

"Her quick thinking potentially saved the cat's life and probably prevented catastrophic damage to her new car's engine."
Inspector Joynes said Leo may have become trapped in the car after something in the street spooked him – sending him looking for a place to hide.

Vet Becky Macalpine and nurse Sarah Jones attended free of charge from Upton Veterinary Surgery and sedated Leo, managing to jab him through a gap in the car's grill.

Inspector Joynes added: "Once he was almost asleep between myself, Becky and Jordan, we managed to slowly prise him out of a gap underneath the vehicle and into a cat basket.
"He was taken to Upton Veterinary Surgery and is now back home with his grateful owners.
"I'd like to thanks everyone involved on a brilliant team effort."
