Scorned woman slashed man with penknife and poured cola all over car dashboard after being dumped

A woman who was " dumped " slashed a man's wrist with a penknife and threw cola all over his car dashboard - despite him claiming they were just friends.

Laura Johnson, 19, also caused damage within the man's car after being told he had a girlfriend, a court heard.

Johnson had thought she was in a relationship with Thomas Dobson when he told her on October 27 that he had a girlfriend.

Jeremy Evans, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Mr Dobson drove to Johnson's home and told her: "We are done."

He seemingly had a new girlfriend and was moving on, reports the Scunthorpe Telegraph .

Mr Evans said there was some doubt about the exact nature of the relationship and Mr Dobson claimed that he and Johnson had never been in a relationship and were simply good friends.

Johnson walked out of her bedroom, lost her temper and shouted and swore at him.

Mr Dobson went to his vehicle and she followed him out and sat next to him in the car.

There was a heated argument and slapping sounds were heard from inside the car. They were grappling with each other.

Mr Dobson tried to pull her out of the vehicle and told her: "Get out of my car, Laura."

He felt pain to his wrist and Johnson cut him with a penknife, causing a superficial stab wound by grazing the skin.

Mr Dobson tried to drag her out of the car but she managed to scramble inside.

She used the penknife to slash the fabric at the base of the passenger seat and the dashboard above the glove box.

She "spitefully" poured cola on the dashboard and this dripped on to the radio.

Johnson admitted assaulting Mr Dobson, possessing a penknife as an offensive weapon and causing criminal damage.

She also claimed she may have caught him with the penknife accidentally.

"This was an argument that clearly got out of control by two people who should have known better," said Mr Evans.

Pamela Coxon, mitigating, said the relationship was over. Johnson suffered some learning disabilities. She had no previous convictions.

Judge Mark Bury said: "You were rather unceremoniously dumped and you reacted badly to it."

Johnson was given 10 days' rehabilitation.
