We've just gotten our hands on review units of both the Moto Z Droid Edition and Moto Z Force Droid Edition from Lenovo. And the first thing I wanted to dig out of the box was the USB-C headphone adapter; neither phone has a headphone jack built in — a design change that's also been rumored for Apple's next iPhone. The bundled adapter is... well, it's about what you'd expect. It's a little long, perhaps, but you don't want the thing to be too rigid to where it'll damage the phone if it gets pulled the wrong way.

So you've got three options for using headphones with the latest Moto:

1. Wired USB-C headphones: no adapter necessary
2. Wireless Bluetooth headphones
3. Traditional wired headphones: you'll need the adapter

The Moto Z is remarkably thin (at least when no MotoMods are attached), but is it worth the tradeoff? This is another cable that many people will need to worry about carrying around, and it's one that's not yet easily replaceable at your local Best Buy. Lenovo is at least including it in the box instead of charging extra, which would be absurd. Hopefully Apple follows the same path.
