ASUS Hyper M.2 X4 Adapter Card Coming in July.
Not all motherboards have an M.2 socket, so you are stuck with having to use an adapter. ASUS is hoping that their new Hyper M.2 x4 PCI Express Adapter Card will help people out that want to run an M.2 PCIe SSD although they are lacking the socket on the board that they are currently using. The adapter simply plugs into an open PCie x4 or larger slot on your motherboard and allows you to use any brand M.2 PCIe SSD of x2 or x4. The only limitation of the adapter is that is only supports one card that is up to 80mm in length, so 2280 or less. If you use the adapter on a board with PCIe 3.0 slots you can get up to a theoretical 32Gbit/s of performance with this adapter. Now we just need a ASUS to come up with a Hyper M.2 x8 card that allows you to run two in RAID for some really insane storage performance. ASUS has not disclosed pricing just yet, but the cards are due to be released in July.
