Xbox One S arrives August 2, same day as Windows 10 anniversary update.
The console is 40 percent smaller than the original Xbox One and has a built-in power supply. Xbox said the console is the first with the ability to stream video and play games in "4K Ultra HD with High Dynamic Range."
"That means you'll get to enjoy your favorite shows and movies in the clearest, most realistic video possible," the release says.
The 2TB version of the console, priced at $399, will be available first. The 1TB version at $349 and the 500GB version at $299 will be released later, Xbox said. Customers can pre-order the console through the Microsoft Store and select retailers.
Xbox One S will be fully backward-compatible with the existing Xbox One. To make Xbox One S more compact, Xbox removed the dedicated Kinect port and will instead offer a USB adapter for Kinect, available for free to Xbox One users who currently have a Kinect and want to upgrade to the Xbox One S.
Xbox said the console will be released first in the United States, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the UK. Xbox One S will rollout in other markets later this year.
Xbox says it will release its newest console, Project Scorpio, in time for the 2017 holiday season.
