Transcend SSD370S.
The Transcend SSD370S ($320 for 1TB) is a premium solid-state drive (SSD) from a manufacturer that's been in the solid-state memory and storage business for almost 20 years. This latest drive has all the bells and whistles you'd want from a primary (C:) drive replacement, including accessories left out of competing products.
Any SSD replacement will seem faster compared with a traditional spinning hard drive. But until recently, in most cases you had to settle for a smaller capacity drive because of the cost. The SSD370S is one of Transcend's top models, available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB capacities. This means you can replace almost any size hard drive without having to figure out what files you need to throw away.
SSD upgrades in desktops can be problematic, since desktop-class drives are 3.5-inch, and not all cases have the 2.5-inch bays SSDs typically require. To help you with upgrades, Transcend includes an adapter bracket that will let the SSD370)S fit in a 3.5-inch bay, as well as strong SSD-monitoring utility software (SSD Scope) with disk-cloning functionality built in. Aside from a SATA cable (which should be preinstalled in your system anyway), you're all set for both desktop and laptop SSD upgrades.
The SSD370S comes with a three-year warranty; this isn't too bad, but many other premium drives have five years of protection and the Samsung SSD 850 Pro has a 10-year warranty. On the plus side, the drive supports DevSleep, an ultra-low-power mode that will help conserve battery power while your system is idle.
The Transcend SSD370S's performance on benchmark tests was middle-of-the-road among competing SSDs, but it's still going to be a speed demon compared with your old hard drive. We're willing to bet that your PC will start booting up in seconds, rather than the several minutes it can take on a bad day.
