Samsung Gear VR design updated, now with USB-C, includes adapter.
We were told the Samsung Gear VR 2 was in the works and ready for testing in India. It turned out to be true that there's a new virtual reality headset but the company didn't call it the Gear VR 2. Alongside the Galaxy Note 7 is this super friend--an upgraded Gear VR that was designed for the new Note and surprisingly, more devices.
The headset now comes with a USB C connector so it's compatible with the Note 7. Now that's significant since the previous Gear VRs can only work with a few models. With this change, the device is now ready for use with the Note 5, S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, S7, S7 edge, and the new Note 7.
Samsung has finally and generously provided an adapter so it can work with other devices. More phones compatible with the Gear VR means more people will be able to explore and enjoy the virtual realm. We don't know how many Galaxy flagship users also have their Gear VRs but we've featured numerous games and apps for the VR headset already. We're hoping that this development in the Samsung Gear VR will further expand the reach of the wearable device and innovation of the technology.
The new Gear VR boasts of a new color. The body is now blue black compared to the white in the previous color. At least in that aspect, we can easily tell which one is new. This change in color also helps the VR headset to offer a better viewing experience because light reflection is finally prevented. The old white body color wasn't exactly a good idea because light could get through.
Another good thing about this new Gear VR is that users can now quickly access Oculus Home, thanks to ta new home key. A single press of the button will take you to a landing page where you will start your virtual reality adventure. There's also an external USB port, the USB Hub 2.0, which allows USB connectivity with other devices. It also allows you to charge the Gear VR so you won't have to worry about the battery running out.
The Gear VR headset now has larger lenses compared to its predecessor. The 42mm difference may not be noticeable to the "naked eye" but field of view is improved to 101 degrees. This means a more natural feel according to Samsung as these optical lenses can now see more than ever.
The Gear VR web browser can be used on the VR headset. Feel free to browse and start enjoying over 300 VR apps available. There are games, educational apps, videos, and immersive experiences ready for your consumption.
