Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Comes With Type-C To microUSB Adapter.
The Galaxy Note 7 from Samsung is finally here. The company took to the stage earlier today and officially introduced the newest member of the Galaxy Note family. Along with that introduction came the confirmation of the various number of features and specs that will be on offer with the device. While most of these were very much in line with the rumored specs that had been building over the last few weeks, there are a number of other details that have now been confirmed. For instance, the Galaxy Note 7 will be the first smartphone on the market to come sporting Gorilla Glass 5.
Another first for the company is that the Galaxy Note 7 is turning away from the microUSB port that has been included on its flagship smartphones up until now. Instead, the Galaxy Note 7 like most new devices will come sporting the newer USB Type-C technology. However, Samsung does sell quite a few accessories along with their devices and some of them are cross-device compatible. As a result, Samsung also today announced that along with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, buyers will receive a USB adapter for free. This means that owners of the new Galaxy Note 7 will still be able to make use of their various cables and other products which make use of microUSB connectors. In short, Samsung has looked to keep the Galaxy Note 7 backward compatible with older cables and accessories.
Which is a smart move on Samsung's behalf. While the industry standard does seem to have moved on to USB Type-C, consumers will already have a wide selection of microUSB connectors and especially Samsung customers. As Samsung had yet to migrate to USB Type-C, this will include the vast number of already existing Samsung smartphone owners. The inclusion of the free USB Type-C to microUSB adapter in the box will mean those customers can still make use of their already purchased accessories and cables and provides another reason for those same customers to upgrade to the latest Galaxy device. Of course, whether those microUSB cables work as well as the new optimized USB Type-C options will, is another story. The choice is still there at least though.
