If you were wondering how Apple was going to address the removal of the standard headphone port from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro, a new claim says the company will ship the smartphones with standard 3.5mm EarPods and include a Lightning adapter in the box to use them.
When the first iPhone 7 rumors surfaced back in November, it took many by surprise since it said that Apple would remove the standard 3.5mm headphone port from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The news was soon followed by a report claiming Apple was planning wireless AirPods that would connect to the smartphones via Bluetooth, and some even believed Apple would be generous enough to include them inside every iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro box.
While it seems more and more likely that 3.5mm headphone port-less iPhones are in our future, a new report sheds some light on how Apple is planning to address what is likely going to be a hot topic when it officially unveils the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro at an event in September.
Macotakara, which has reported reliable Apple leaks in the past, claims its sources have revealed the following information pertaining to how Apple plans to handle the lack of a 3.5mm headphone port and allow customers to use their favorite headphones and Apple's existing EarPods with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro.
"At Computex Taipei 2016, many manufacturers showcased their new Lightning audio adaptors, and it seems there has been rumors that the EarPods with Remote and Mic to be included with the new iPhone 7 series will still come with its own headphone jack as usual, and that a Lightning headphone jack adaptor will also be included in the package."
We've already gotten a preview of what the adapter could possibly look like, since a third party accessory maker showed off a few of its Lightning adapters.
When Apple introduced the iPhone 5 in 2012, it removed the popular Dock connector used on most iPods, iPhones, and iPads for a new Lightning connector, which the company claimed allowed it to make the iPhone thinner than any previous model. The introduction to the new Lightning port caused an uproar in the iOS community who had invested money in accessories that connected to the Dock port, as well as countless dock cables. To remedy this, Apple introduced a Lightning to 30-pin adapter, which is still sold for $29 through its online store. You can find less expensive alternatives on Amazon.
Remember, it's always best to take upcoming iPhone rumors with a huge grain of salt. Do you think Apple will include a Lightning adapter in the box or sell it? Let us know in the comments below.
