Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA) Model S and Other EV Owners Touring Around The World in 80 Days.

Electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts, including owners of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), are going for a tour around the world in 80 days. Although it is not exactly "around the world," 12 teams from across the globe have lined up to travel around three continents, Asia, Europe and North America, to raise awareness of EV capabilities under the "80eDays" challenge.
The classic long trip of 25,000 km (15,534 miles) will move through 20 countries. The teams together departed about 2 days and 12 hours ago from Arco de Triunfo in Barcelona, Spain. Their travelling route shows that they have to travel possibly from Lisbon, Portugal to Prince Edward Island, Canada towards the west.
The event focuses on proving that EVs like the Model S are sustainable transportation, something what Tesla has been doing for years as it is on a mission to "accelerate the transition to sustainable transpiration." The battery-driven vehicles will cover different geographic terrain, from Alps mountain ranges in Europe to the Gobi Desert in Central Asia.
The 11 teams are from around the world: two each from Germany and Switzerland, and one each from Australia, China, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and the US. The US team lead Alan Soule of Sebastopol, CA, a Model S 85D owner, will be managing six co-drivers.
Mr. Soule has been a fanatic of EVs and other green energy vehicles for many years. He initially leased out General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) EV1 in 1999 and purchased Tesla Roadster following its launch in 2008. He took his Roadster for a trip on the Mother Road (US Route 66) and acquired a Model S in 2012, its release year.
He decided to take part in the challenge after meeting Team Spain's Rafael de Mestre, who wanted to use his Roadster for the trip. Mr. Soule and his team required ensuring they have all the charging adapters for the trip and he had to do extensive research on the safest and best routes to take.
