Monster Hunter and PS4 Lead Software and Hardware in Amazon Japan's Best Sellers for First Half of 2016.
The first half of 2016 is now history, and Amazon Japan published its traditional rankings for games, giving us a comprehensive look on what sold best in the first six months of the year.
We get a rather obvious win for Monster Hunter Generations (titled Monster Hunter X locally), while the standard jet black PS4 tops hardware by a long shot.
On the other hand, wedged between the two we find an apparently unassuming accessory: the New 3DS AC Adapter, that sells like hotcakes since Nintendo didn't include it in the box. Funnily, it sold a lot more than any New 3DS console.
Here's the top 20:
- Monster Hunter Generations
- New 3DS AC Adapter
- PS4 (Jet Black)
- Fallout 4 (PS4)
- Splatoon (Wii U)
- Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4)
- Inkling Squid amiibo
- Dark Souls 3 (PS4)
- Dragon Quest Builders (PS4)
- Inkling Girl amiibo
- Inkling Boy amiibo
- Monster Strike (3DS)
- Monster Strike with pre-order bonus (3DS)
- Super Mario Maker (Wii U)
- Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 (3DS)
- Yo-Kai Sangokushi
- PS Vita Memory Card 16 GB
- PS4 (Glacier White)
- Hori's New 3DS XL Protective Film
- Dragon Quest Builders (PS Vita)
The presence of Fallout 4 in 4th place might surprise some, but Japanese gamers have developed a solid appreciation for open world games. Splatoon proves, as usual, to be Nintendo's true winning ace alongside its amiibo, while Star Wars: Battlefront high sales were inevitable. Japanese geeks do love all things Star Wars.
Dragon Quest Builders also shown a solid presence in the rankings, alongside Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3, showing that the classic JRPG series still has plenty of local fans.
